Journey through colourful Rajasthan and discover the fierce history of massive forts and the opulence and splendour of Maharajahs' palaces, search for the elusive Bengal tiger in the stunning surrounds of Ranthambhore National Park, watch the blazing Indian sun set over the remote village of Madhogarh. Experience the magic of Holi in the beautiful town of Bundi.

Itinerary:

Day 1  Delhi
Arrive in Delhi and transfer to your hotel. Meet with your tour leader and fellow travellers at a welcome meeting this evening, followed by a dinner with your group.

Day 2  Delhi
Discover Old Delhi on a walking tour, take a rickshaw through a typical Indian traffic jam in the streets around Chandni Chowk marketplace. Visit Jama Masjid, Delhi’s oldest and India’s largest mosque. Escape the hectic pace of the city streets and head into a Sikh temple, Sheeshganj Gurudwara, where you can witness the spiritual side of this bustling metropolis. The rest of the day is free for you to enjoy the sights of Delhi.

Day 3  Delhi to Agra
Take one of India’s air-conditioned express trains to Agra. Steeped in Mughal heritage, Agra has a wealth of gardens, temples and open rooftops. Visit the Taj Mahal and learn why the Emperor Shah Jahan built the monument as a memorial to his wife Mumtaz. Later, enjoy a meal that makes a difference and visit the Sheroes Hangout, a remarkable social enterprise that supports survivors of acid attacks.

Day 4  Agra to Madhogarh
Leave Agra behind and take a local bus to Bassi, a small town in the middle of rural Rajasthan. On arrival take a private vehicle to your accommodation for the night in Madhogarh. You will be staying in a beautiful heritage property of Fort Madogarh, Take a walk around the village and see crafts people at work and meet the locals.

Day 5  Madogarh to Jaipur
Travel to Jaipur by private vehicle this morning, on arrival take a walk around the ‘Pink City’ of Jaipur. Walk through the city’s busy bazaar and browse the handicrafts and semi-precious stones on display. Visit the Amber fort situated on a hilltop. The Sheesh Mahal inside the fort is a must-see. After the tour, the rest of the day is free to spend as you wish.

Day 6  Jaipur
Today is a free day in Jaipur with many optional activities available to choose from, you could take the hot air balloon ride, floating across the skyline of Jaipur or jump in a rickshaw to Hawa Mahal, also known as “Palace of the Winds”. After a day of exploring perhaps catch a Bollywood movie at the Raj Mandir Cinema.

Day 7  Jaipur to Ranthambore NP
Head to Ranthambore National Park, once a famous hunting ground for the Maharajas of Jaipur. Explore the ruins within the park including the 10th Century fort and in the evening go in search of tigers and other wildlife such as jackals, deers, langurs and marsh crocodiles in a 4WD safari.

Day 8  Ranthambore NP to Bundi
Travel to Bundi by private vehicle, wander the narrow streets on a walking tour through the downtown market and stop off at Bundi’s intricate step wells (baori) an architectural marvel and once the source of water for the town. Explore the 16th Century palace before heading to your next heritage stay. After lunch be prepared to get messy as you join the heritage property owners for an incredible celebration of the Holi Festival. Gather with your group in the courtyard and immerse yourself in the music and festivities, paint the air with brightly coloured powders to celebrate the arrival of spring. This truly is an unforgettable experience.

Day 9  Bundi to Paangarh Lake
Take a local train to Bassi, crossing the countryside to Paangarh Lake. Enjoy the views out to the 15th Century fort as you sip a cup of chai whilst watching the sunset over the lake. Spend the night in a permanent tented camp, situated on the lakeshore, this truly is a relaxing experience away from the chaotic cities of India.

Day 10  Paangarh Lake to Bijaipur
Drive in an open top jeep into the countryside passing tranquil villages along the way, you may even spot some wildlife as you drive through the region. Arrive at your next heritage stay and enjoy an authentic meal of local specialities.

Days 11-12 Bijaipur to Udaipur
Leave Bijaipur and journey to Udaipur by private vehicle, on arrival absorb the city’s hills, lakes and white marble palaces or wander through the twisting alleys and bazaars filled with silver, leather goods and paintings. After your walk, the rest of the day is free to do as you please. On day 12 visit Udaipur’s City Palace, one of the largest royal palaces in the world. Later, opt for a boat ride on the beautiful Lake Pichola and marvel at the palaces. In the evening enjoy a cultural performance of combining seven traditional Rajasthani folk dances.

Day 13  Udaipur to Pushkar
Board an air conditioned train to Ajmer followed by a private vehicle to your hotel in Pushkar. Take a walk around the bustling Ghats and temples around Pushkar Lake. Share a home cooked meal with a local family for lunch and learn about their life living in the desert city. The rest of the day is free for you to explore further.

Day 14  Pushkar to Delhi
If you’re an early riser why not go for hike up to the Savitri Temple for amazing sunrise views over the town. After, board your train departing Ajmer in the afternoon to return back to Delhi. Arrive late evening and transfer to your hotel.

Day 15  Delhi
Your Rajasthan adventure comes to an end.
