Itinerary
Day 2 Galle
Arrive in Colombo and transfer to your hotel. Located in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Galle Fort, this area was constructed by the Dutch in the 17th Century and served as the country’s main port for over 200 years.
Day 3 Galle
Take a walking tour of Galle Fort with a local resident. Wander along the ramparts, past the iconic cricket ground, and listen as your guide recounts the captivating history of this unique city. Meander through the streets, past some of the best-known landmarks, including the lighthouse and old Portuguese harbour, as well as many of the historic churches and residences within the fort’s walls.
Day 4 Galle
Spend the day at leisure. Choose to explore the charming streets with their dozens of restaurants, cafés, and quirky shops, or head to the paddy fields and inky-blue lakes of the surrounding countryside. Perhaps, enjoy a Sri Lankan dinner at sunset and soak up the atmosphere within the fort.
Day 5 Galle to Bentota
Enjoy breakfast on the terrace before driving north along the coast to your beachfront hotel in peaceful Bentota, where you will spend the next nine nights.
Days 6-13 Bentota
Located on the southwest coast, boasting views over the Indian Ocean, spend your days enjoying the array of facilities at your resort or relaxing on the idyllic golden beach, shaded by palm trees. The milelong sandy beach is perfect for relaxing or a leisurely stroll. In the evenings, enjoy delicious cuisine at one of the hotel restaurants or visit a local eatery and enjoy Sri Lankan curries in candlelit courtyards. If you’re looking for more, the calmer waters of the Bentota Ganga lagoon are ideal for watersports. As your relaxing stay comes to an end, bid a fond farewell to lovely Bentota before departing the next day.
Days 14-15 Transfer to Colombo and fly home
Additional Options: Instead of driving straight to Galle on arrival, why not start your holiday with a stay in Colombo before adding a scenic coastal rail journey to charming Galle? Following the island’s Indian Ocean coastline, the trip typically takes two hours, showcasing fabulous ocean views on your journey south. Ask your Trailfinders travel consultant for more details.
