Itinerary
Days 3-4 Auckland
Welcome to Auckland! Upon arrival, head to your hotel before exploring this bustling city.
Day 5 Northern Explorer
Board the Northern Explorer train in Auckland and wind through fertile farmland to the volcanic Central Plateau to Tongariro National Park.
Day 6 Tongariro National Park
Today, experience a guided crossing of the Tongariro alpine path through spectacular volcanic scenery taking in steam vents, emerald lakes and solidified lava flows.
Day 7 Northern Explorer
Rejoin the Northern Explorer train and continue south to Wellington, known for its café culture.
Day 8 Wellington
Enjoy a visit to the spellbinding Wçtâ Workshop and learn about the making of props, costumes and creatures created for a plethora of films.
Day 9 Coastal Pacific
This morning, board a ferry to cross the Cook Strait, connecting with the Coastal Pacific train in Picton as it departs for Blenheim, the gateway to the Marlborough wine region.
Day 10 Blenheim
Visit a variety of local vineyards, sample world famous Sauvignon Blanc and enjoy a deliciously prepared gourmet lunch.
Days 11-12 Coastal Pacific
Board the Coastal Pacific train in Blenheim to continue meandering along the rugged coast to Kaikôura before heading out on an exciting whale watching expedition. The following day, reboard the Coastal Pacific train and travel on to Christchurch.
Day 13 TranzAlpine Train
Journey through the Southern Alps on the TranzAlpine train from Christchurch taking in the South Island’s striking natural beauty. Upon arrival in Greymouth, pick up a car and follow the remote west coast towards Franz Josef.
Day 14 Franz Josef
Today, admire the spectacular scenery from the skies on an incredible helicopter flight.
Days 15-17 Franz Josef to Queenstown
Continue your journey with a stunning drive through Mount Aspiring National Park to the adventure hub of Queenstown. Enjoy a tour of the town, sample local wines and head out on a scenic cruise of Lake Wakatipu. Perhaps spend a day in Milford or Doubtful Sounds.
Day 18 Queenstown to Lake Tekapo
Travel the scenic route towards Lake Tekapo, perhaps stopping at the lakeside town of Wânaka en route.
Day 19 Lake Tekapo to Christchurch
Return to Christchurch and spend your final evening on board the Christchurch Tramway Restaurant.
Days 20-21 Fly home
Drive to Christchurch airport and drop off the car in time for your flight home.
