New Zealand by Road & Rail

Days 1-2  Auckland  
Explore this urban city on an introductory tour showcasing the history, culture and stunning settings.        

Days 3-4  Auckland to Rotorua  
Pick up your car before heading to geothermal Rotorua, showcasing steaming hot springs, bubbling mud pools and incredible geysers.        

Days 5-6  Rotorua to Turangi  
Drive to Turangi, your base to discover the volcanic landscape of Tongariro National Park. The awe-inspiring Tongariro Alpine Crossing is one of New Zealand’s greatest hikes, witness steam vents, emerald lakes and solidified lava flows.        

Days 7-8  Turangi to Wellington  
Journey through the charming countryside to New Zealand’s capital where you can enjoy gourmet cafés and sandy beaches. Spend the afternoon immersing yourself in all thing New Zealand film at the thrilling Weta Workshop.    

Days 9-10  Wellington to Blenheim        
This morning drop off your car and cross the Cook Strait by ferry. Connect with the Coastal Pacific train in Picton as it departs for Blenheim, the gateway to Marlborough wine region. On day 8, sample the world famous Sauvignon Blanc alongside a delightful gourmet lunch while visiting the local vineyards.        

Day 11  Blenheim to Kaikoura      
Reboard the train and continue along the breathtaking coastline to Kaikoura.      

Day 12  Kaikoura to Christchurch      
Join an exciting whale watching cruise and look out for the resident sperm, dusky dolphins and more. Later hop onboard the Coastal Pacific once more and travel on to Christchurch.        

Days 13-14  Christchurch to Franz Josef        
Marvel at the South Island’s striking natural beauty as the Tranzalpine carries you through the Southern Alps to Greymouth. Collect a car in Greymouth and get back on the road following the remote west coast towards Franz Josef where a magnificent glacier helicopter is included on day 14.        

Days 15-17  Franz Josef to Queenstown        
Pass through the astounding Mount Aspiring National Park en route to the thrilling city of Queenstown. Enjoy a half day tour with a boat ride on Lake Wakatipu, incredible scenic look out points and sampling local wines. From Queenstown perhaps head out to immense scenery of Milford or Doubtful Sound for the day.      

Day 18  Queenstown to Lake Tekapo        
Take a scenic drive to towards Lake Tekapo, perhaps stopping by the lakeside town of Wanaka on the way.    

Days 19-20  Lake Tekapo to Christchurch      
Complete your journey with a drive back into Christchurch. Enjoy a four course gourmet dining experience on board the Christchurch Tramway Restaurant on your final evening, before continuing to the airport on day 20.
