Itinerary
Fly overnight to Ho Chi Minh City and transfer to your hotel upon arrival.
Day 3 Ho Chi Minh City
Enjoy a morning tour of Ho Chi Minh City including a stroll around its colonial buildings and fascinating landmarks. The afternoon is free for you to explore the city.
Day 4 Tay Ninh & Cu Chi Tunnels
Embark on a tour out of the city, stopping first at the fantastic temple of the eclectic Cao Dai religion in Tay Ninh. Continue to Cu Chi to explore the famous tunnels used by the Viet Cong during the Vietnam War.
Day 5 Ho Chi Minh City to Mekong Delta
Continue to Cai Be and board your 3★+ Bassac river cruise. Relax and watch riverside life from the deck.
Day 6 Mekong Delta to Chau Doc
Enjoy breakfast on board as you cruise along the delta, soaking in views of traditional life. Disembark at Can Tho and continue to Chau Doc for the night.
Day 7 Chau Doc to Phnom Penh, Cambodia
This morning, a shared speedboat journey takes you to the Cambodian border and on to its capital, Phnom Penh.
Day 8 Phnom Penh
Begin your day learning about Cambodia’s harrowing past at the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek and Tuol Sleng prison. This afternoon visit Wat Phnom Penh, the ornate Royal Palace and the Silver Pagoda, before a stop at the National Museum for a fascinating insight into Khmer culture and history.
Day 9 Phnom Penh to Siem Reap
An interesting five hour drive takes you through the countryside to Siem Reap, gateway to the Temples of Angkor, alternatively you can also fly this route.
Day 10 Temples of Angkor
Explore some of the best known temples of this spectacular complex including Angkor Thom, Bayon, Ta Prohm and the iconic Angkor Wat.
Day 11 Temples of Angkor
Depending on water levels you will either take a boat trip on Tonlé Sap Lake amongst the floating villages or explore the unrestored temple of Beng Mealea. Later, visit the APOPO Centre, a humanitarian landmine clearance project, and the beautiful temple of Banteay Srey.
Days 12-13 Fly home
Additional Options: If you like the idea of cruising why not consider a longer journey to explore the Mekong in more depth? Travelling between the Mekong Delta in Vietnam and Siem Reap in Cambodia, a longer cruise offers the chance to reach areas often inaccessible by land and to observe local life in remote riverside villages.
