Chicago to Washington DC by Rail

Days 1-3  Chicago  
Fly to Chicago, the birthplace of the skyscraper. The city is famed for its incredible architecture, a spectacular lakeside setting, and a river that winds through its centre. Enjoy the next few days embracing the culture at one of the many museums, theatres or blues bars.    

Day 4  Capitol Limited Train    
Leave Chicago behind as you board Amtrak’s Capitol Limited. Settle into a private Roomette and enjoy dinner on board before letting the gentle rhythm of the rails rock you to sleep in your comfy bunkbeds.    

Day 5  Pittsburgh    
The train pulls into Pittsburgh in the morning, so drop your bags at the hotel, grab some coffee and head out to discover this welcoming city! For more train adventures, you can ride one of the steep funicular railways up the hillside for incredible views over the city.    

Day 6  Pittsburgh    
Blessed with a scenic riverside setting and boasting more bridges than anywhere else in the USA, the Steel City may surprise you with its imposing architecture and array of attractions. Opt to visit the Andy Warhol Museum, explore the Cultural District or soak up the atmosphere on game day.    

Day 7  Pittsburgh to Washington DC    
Depart Pittsburgh in the early morning and relax in your private roomette. Admire the scenery of Harpers Ferry and the Allegheny Mountains before arriving into Washington at lunchtime to begin your exploration of America’s capital.    

Days 8-9  Washington DC  
This city is bursting with incredible museums and imposing memorials to presidents past. Beyond the stately attractions of this political powerhouse you’ll find an array of colourful neighbourhoods to explore.      

Days 10-11  Fly home
