Itinerary
Fly to Washington DC, the USA’s capital! Begin at the National Mall, home to iconic landmarks like the Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument and US Capitol. After admiring the White House, visit some of the 21 Smithsonian Museums- offering something for everyone from natural history to space exploration. Take a relaxing stroll around the Tidal Basin for serene views of the Jefferson Memorial, which is especially picturesque during cherry blossom season. Beyond the famous centre there are many lively neighbourhoods to be explored. Discover the charm of Georgetown with its cobblestone streets, boutique shops and picturesque waterfront dining, or for a taste of DC’s nightlife head to Adams Morgan and U Street, filled with vibrant bars and live music. Before you go perhaps catch a game of baseball at National Park and immerse yourself in America’s favourite pastime.
Days 4-6 Philadelphia
Today board your Amtrak Acela at Washington’s Union Station and arrive in Philadelphia in just two hours. Steeped in history, Philadelphia offers a captivating mix of culture, architecture and verdant parks. Start your adventure by exploring renowned landmarks like the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall or admire City Hall, an architectural masterpiece that stands in the heart of the city. Art lovers will appreciate the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, where this striking gothic building houses masterpieces by many influential American artists. Stroll 13th Street for independent boutiques, galleries and vibrant dining or unwind in Rittenhouse Square one of the city’s first public gardens. For a more unique experience don’t miss the Rail Park, an innovative elevated green space, transformed from an old railway line, with landscaped gardens, swing seats and city views. A must-visit before you go is the bustling Reading Terminal, one of the nation’s oldest and largest public markets, discover Pennsylvania Dutch cuisine, sample local craft beer and taste the iconic Philly cheesesteak.
