Chicago is one of my favourite cities in the USA and it's so easy to explore on foot. The newly renovated River Walk has some brilliant bar options and is perfect for a morning run. I'd also recommend taking an Architecture River Cruise for a great orientation of the city.

Go up the Empire State Building late at night. You will get a new perspective on the city that never sleeps, the queues will be shorter and you will have better photo opportunities without the day time crowds. You might even be lucky enough to have a local sitting playing some light jazz which really adds to the experience.
