Hiroshima Holidays

asia
Despite the devastation of the atomic bomb, Hiroshima has blossomed into a vibrant, modern city. Alongside the poignant Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum and Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, subtle reminders of that notorious August day in 1945 remain, yet it is the optimism and resilience of the city’s inhabitants that truly shine through.

Beyond its places of reflection, Hiroshima delights visitors with its local culture and cuisine. The city is especially famous for its style of okonomiyaki, a teppanyaki, savoury pancake dish, best enjoyed in one of the many bustling eateries. With rivers criss-crossing the city and a relaxed pace of life, Hiroshima offers a refreshing contrast to Japan’s larger metropolitan centres.

Just across the water lies the sacred island of Itsukushima, a place of outstanding natural beauty. It is famed for the iconic Itsukushima Shrine, whose striking vermillion torii (gate) appears to float on water. The shrine dates back around 1,400 years, adding a deep sense of history to the already picturesque setting. Inland, forested hills, peaceful walking trails, and freely roaming deer offers a serene escape.

Trailfinders offers a range of Hiroshima holidays and we have a dedicated team of destination specialists who are a mine of information about what to do here, often with first-hand travel experience. Whether you want to explore Japan on a self guided holiday, a sociable small group tour, a stopover or a cruise holiday, they are the perfect people to ask.
