Scenic Train Journeys

Interlaken • Montreux
Embark on a memorable journey from picturesque Interlaken, via the impressive landscapes of the Bernese Oberland, to the elegant town of Montreux. Enjoy a glass of champagne and some caviar whilst reclining comfortably on the luxurious, heated leather seats. Prestige class has a raised carriage floor, allowing for optimal viewing of the magnificent surroundings.

Zermatt • Brig • Chur/St Moritz
Known as Europe’s slowest express train, the Glacier Express gently weaves its way through the stunning Swiss Alps, and the panoramic domed carriages ensure you do not miss the spectacular views! Travel over Oberalp Pass at 2,033m, cross over the Landwasser Viaduct and admire the vast Swiss Alps. The full journey takes 8 hours, so perhaps upgrade to Excellence Class for a sumptuous 5 course meal with wine, VIP check-in and a guaranteed window seat in the deluxe carriage. Travel is also possible in the opposite direction.

Chur/Davis • St Moritz • Tirano (Italy)
Arguably the most scenic rail journey of them all, the Bernina Express travels from towering glaciers to the verdant pine forests of northern Italy. The train climbs up to 2,223m above sea level, making it the highest rail crossing in the Alps, a masterpiece of engineering that earned it UNESCO World Heritage Site status. The most popular stretch between St Moritz and Tirano takes 2½ hours after which you can choose to return to St Moritz or perhaps continue onto Lugano on board the comfortable Bernina Express Bus, taking around 3 hours. Travel is also possible in the opposite direction.

Lugano • Fluelen • Lucerne
An enchanting journey by rail on the Gotthard Panorama Express and boat through the centre of Switzerland. Travelling from Lugano in the south, settle into your panoramic carriage, offering spectacular views of the mountainous region of Ticino for a 2½ hour journey north. At Fluelen, transfer onto an elegant, traditional boat as you take a gentle 3 hour cruise across the waters of Lake Lucerne, one of Switzerland’s most beautiful lakes. Travel is also possible in the opposite direction.
